Candidates Looking to Work in Story County

     Drive any major roadway in Story County and you will see “Help Wanted” signs. The Ames Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) continues to experience some of the lowest unemployment rates in the country.  The Ames Chamber of Commerce is pleased to partner with Story County, the City of Ames, and a large number of private sector employers in developing and executing workforce solutions initiatives designed to support the recruiting efforts of Story County businesses. 

     Two initiatives in particular are designed to provide businesses with information on job seekers that are actively seeking work in Ames and the surrounding area.  Both programs are FREE for the job seeker and employer to utilize.

     The first of these two initiative is the, your gateway to careers in Story County, Iowa. This award winning and interactive website averages 1,600 job postings on any given day and receives on average 2,000 searches each week.  All jobs posted directly to the site will be matched to existing job seekers that have created a profile on  As a registered employer on this site you can review the profiles of more than 1,100 job seekers looking for work in the Ames & Story County area. 

     In addition to the county-wide job board, the Ames Chamber of Commerce partners with the State of Iowa and Story County to support the recruitment of veterans via the Home Base Iowa program. 

     Story County became a Home Base Iowa community in 2015.  We are receiving more resumes than ever before from veterans interested in working in the Ames area.  Story County offers an attractive and flexible relocation package to support these hires.  Registering to become a Home Base Iowa employer is easy!  Go to and select “Become a Partner”. Once registered as a Home Base Iowa employer, one can review the large database of veterans interested in work in Iowa.
